The grounds of the Antique Boat Museum came alive, Saturday July 31st with people, displays, information and boat rides that came together to create Riverday '99. The day started at around 3:30 with environmental displays explaining some of the many ways to help Save The River achieve it's goals here on the river. Dr.Lee and Laurie Harper explain their common tern research work and sign up interested volunteers to help with the study. Dr. John Farrell and the rest of the scientists from the Thousand Islands Biological Station on Governor's Island thrilled visitors with their interactive displays and tanks of St Lawrence river fish.

At 4:00 Gerry Smith of the Nature Conservancy and Ken Deedy of the Thousand Island Land Trust led an ecological tour on Mokihana, the Antique Boat Museum 's Venetian water taxi, highlighting the local migratory bird habitat. The event culminated with a traditional Thousand Islands shore dinner accompanied by the relaxing sounds of swing thanks to Andy Miller's Swingtime!
The day's success was in no small part due to the generous help of the many volunteers and donors who offered their help. Save The River would like to thank the Antique Boat Museum for the use of the grounds and boats, Dennis Honeywell for his captaining expertise, Gerry Smith and Ken Deedy for leading an excellent tour, Beck Hoehn, Jennifer Weiss, and Juliane Bauer- Hutchinson for their riveting children's programs, Andy Greene, Sue Martenka, Cheri Roe and Doug Eberhart for their volunteerism, the Clayton Big M and the Pepsi Bottling Group for much needed beverages, Greg Lago of the Winged Bull Studio for use of his easels, John Farrell, Kim Farrell, Brian Smith, Molly Connerton, and Greg Hoag of Governor's Island, and their guest Karin Crook of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
